The Beeyard & Beyond

Garden Work
Honeybees, bumblebees and other pollinators are very attracted to zinnias, garlic chive flowers and other nectar-rich plants in the garden during the mid-late summer dearth period.
Early Summer Swarm & Capture
Sometimes things work out perfectly — working in the bee yard just as a swarm emerges from a hive, the swarm landing within reach, and successfully capturing them, all resulting in a new colony.

About JolyBee

JolyBee is a creation of Dave Joly, who has been tending hives in Northeast Connecticut for decades. His philosophy is simple: let the bees do what they do best, and if the health of a colony calls for treatment, use natural biological controls, not chemicals.

What makes JolyBee honey special? It's small-batch, locally produced, and truly raw—minimally filtered and never heated, preserving all the natural enzymes and local pollen that make raw wild honey far superior to store-bought varieties. While the flavors may change with the blooms of the season, the natural harvesting approach never does.

When not working with the bees, Dave creates whimsical images and animations. He began his professional art career in the early 80's as a games animator at Atari in Sunnyvale, CA, then as a freelance illustrator/animator working with clients nationwide for 30+ years.

Sometimes, the worlds of beekeeping and art collide—like the happy bee on the JolyBee label, or an animated tale about a common beekeeping adventure!
